Center founder Daisaku Ikeda has written widely on the Buddhist concept of interdependence, remarking that, "All things are linked in an intricate web of causation and connection, and nothing, whether in the realm of human affairs or natural phenomena, can exist or occur solely of its own accord.” He continues, “More than objective awareness, we must achieve a state of compassion transcending distinctions between self and other. We need to feel the compassionate energy that beats within the depths of all people’s subjective lives where the individual and the universal are merged.”

Taking this vision as a guide, this year’s Ikeda Forum will examine interdependence, expanding beyond its roots as a Buddhist concept, and highlighting its personal, social, and cross-cultural implications. As with past Ikeda Forums, we will draw inspiration from various influential thinkers and cultural traditions. Please join us as we investigate how an affirmation of the truth of interdependence, if widely internalized and acted upon, would lead to a more peaceful and harmonious world.
